Anybody addicted to magazines? I used to be. Going to the grocery store in my sweats & no makeup & pickin up people magazine to see what J-lo is up to or how beyonce lost the baby fat. I’d look that good too if I had a personal trainer, worked out 6 days a week & had healthy meals for my family delivered to our door THREE times a day. Whaaaaa?!?! (Mothers day gift? Matt? No? Ok 😩)
Anyways, I’d always Compare myself to these women. “Her voice is so much better than mine. i wish i could sing like her” or “I wish I had her eyebrows”
you know. all that. I know you mommas feel me. You look down & your sweats are faded & you realize you have two different shoes on. Yikes.
I started thinkin.
I’ve always been “ordinary”
I’ve always been “okay” at a lot of things & not really great at anything in particular. I’m okay at singing. I was okay at soccer in high school. I’m okay at cooking. You get what I’m saying.
Nobody is putting me in Vogue or People anytime soon unless they’re doing a special on how many ways you can wear sweatpants (HOLLAAAA)
But for the past couple of months I’ve been taking a break from reading those magazines & websites & you know what? God has shown me how much He loves me & how He loves to use regular people to do awesome things THROUGH HIM!
Say what?!?! That’s what I’m talkin bout! God can use little ole me to do things for Him.
What an HONOR. Seriously.
I’ve been looking through the Bible & taking note of some ordinary people God has used to do some pretty incredible things:
* David. Just a Shepherd. Just a boy. But God saw so much more. A warrior. A King. A man after His own heart.
*the disciples. Just ordinary men. God used them to spread the gospel & change the WORLD.
*Joseph. Just a carpenter. No one super special. But God chose him to help raise His precious son.
*mary. Not a beauty queen. Not a famous actress. Just a young girl with a love for The Lord & a willing heart to do whatever He asked of her.
& He chose her to birth & raise our SAVIOR!!
These are just a few of the many. But see? When we are willing to give our lives to Jesus, no matter how ordinary we are, He can use us! Through Him we are made strong. Through Him we are equipped. Through Him we can do anything He calls us to do.
Sometimes being ordinary is pretty …extraordinary. ❤
"Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-31"
